Teen Pleads Guilty In Waltham Beating Death

WOBURN (CBS/AP) — One of three juveniles from Waltham facing manslaughter charges in connection with the beating death last year of a 34-year-old man has pleaded guilty.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan says the two 16-year-old boys and a 17-year-old youth hit Thierry Tullus in the head with a rock, punched and kicked him, then robbed him and stole items from his vehicle.

Tullus was found dead in his car on August 18.

Authorities say Tullus drove with the teenagers to the Overland Road area in Waltham. The four walked to a wooded area undergoing construction where authorities allege the teens beat Tullus. After the beating, the victim walked back to his vehicle and drove it a short distance before parking.

"The callous nature of this vicious assault is disturbing and frightening," Ryan said in court Tuesday.

Joshua Greaves, 16 at the time, pleaded guilty to all charges against him. His lawyer, Michael Doolin, said Greaves wants to accept responsibility for what he did and will issue an apology in court.

"That's a sincere apology from someone who's had to live with this over the past 10 months, who has thought about it every day, and someone who will express to the court what a terrible mistake he made on the day in question," Doolin said.

The prosecution wants four to eight years in prison for Greaves, while the defense seeks five years in Department of Youth Services custody.

The other two teenagers face arraignment in August.
