Patriots Reportedly Release Tight End Tim Wright
BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England Patriots have released tight end Tim Wright, according to multiple reports.
Fox Sports 1's Mike Garofalo was the first to report Wright's release on Thursday morning.
The Patriots acquired Wright ahead of last season when they sent Logan Mankins to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In addition to receiving Wright, the Patriots also received a 2015 fourth-round pick, which they used to select defensive end Tre Flowers out of Arkansas.
Wright played in 11 games for New England during the 2014-15 season, hauling in 26 receptions for 259 yards and a career-high six touchdowns. Two of those touchdowns came in the Patriots 34-9 drubbing of the Detroit Lions at Gillette Stadium.
But with a healthy (knock on the closest piece of wood) Rob Gronkowski and the newly-signed Scott Chandler leading the way, and Fred Davis and Michael Hoomanawanui providing depth at tight end, the Patriots felt comfortable enough to send the 25-year-old Wright packing.
Wright will now hit waivers.
