Braintree Officer's Pregnant Wife Battles Breast Cancer

BRAINTREE (CBS) -- The Braintree Police Department is appealing to the public for help supporting an officer and his expectant wife as they face a tough battle.

After four recent miscarriages, Officer Nate Killeffer and his wife Jodi found themselves pregnant again. Then, Jodi got a life-changing diagnosis.

"We were delighted when we heard the news that he and his wife were expecting their first born child," police posted to Facebook. "Shortly thereafter they received the devastating news that his wife Jodi, was diagnosed with breast cancer."

Jodi has already had surgery and started chemotherapy treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The baby is due in September, and Jodi will need more radiation and surgery after that.

The family is seeking to raise $10,000 to help the couple, as Jodi has been unable to work. They've already raised over $7,000 on a GiveForward page.

You can read more about the couple on Jodi's blog.
