Patriots Linebacker Brandon Spikes' Car Found Abandoned In Foxboro

FOXBORO (CBS) -- A luxurious car registered to New England Patriots Linebacker Brandon Spikes was found wrecked and abandoned on Route 495 in Foxboro early Sunday morning, and police are investigating whether it may be linked to another vehicle damaged in a hit-and-run.

Spikes' car now sits in a tow yard, next to a Nissan Murano that was mysteriously hit by someone not far where Spikes' car was, and around the same time.

Police say about 3:30 a.m., Mercedes Benz Roadside Assistance Service reported to police that the driver of the Maybach claimed they had hit a deer. When officers arrived the driver was gone and no deer was found, but the car remained.

The abandoned 2011 Mercedes Maybach registered to Spikes was found in the median strip. The front end was damaged.

Shortly after and in the same area, the driver of the Nissan Murano reported being rear-ended. Three people from Billerica were in the SUV, including a 12-year-old boy. They were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. They did not see the vehicle that hit them.

Police are looking into whether both incidents are linked.

A spokesperson for the New England Patriots says the organization has contacted Spikes and is "looking into the matter."

Spikes posted a photo on Instagram of a Mercedes Maybach two weeks ago.

Spikes just re-signed with the Patriots. He had played with the team for four seasons then signed with the Buffalo Bills last year before returning to New England for this season.
