Strong Support For Tom Brady At Best Buddies Charity Game
BOSTON (CBS) - Tom Brady's charity football game for Best Buddies is usually a big event. But this year it was even bigger as it was the quarterback's first local public appearance since the announcement of his four game suspension.
An appeal has now been set for June 23. Patriots fans came with a message for Brady, some carrying posters, some wearing "Free Brady'" shirts hoping he would see them. "I wanted to show support for him. He's done a lot for the community and I want to give back something to him," said Colin McSorley.
Brady got plenty of applause as he took to the field to kick off Best Buddies weekend. Deflategate seemed to be in the rear-view mirror and his friend, actor Michael Chiklis, said that's the way it should be. "We're doing something good for a lot of people. That's what he's about, that's who he is," said Chiklis.
There were a few incompletes, a few touchdown passes that were enough to thrill the crowd, including the smallest of players like Nick Giovinadzo who could call Tom Brady a teammate.
"He was really awesome and fun to play with," Nick said.
But even at halftime when Brady usually takes to the microphone during these charity games, there were smiles but no words from the quarterback on the day a date for his appeal was finally set.
"I'm all for him," said fan John Zappi. "There's worse things that have happened in the NFL."
