Strong Evening Thunderstorms Possible

Scattered showers and downpours this morning mark the leading edge of humid air that will push into the region this afternoon.  The wet weather is welcome news considering many of our lawns and gardens already look like "shredded wheat" as someone on twitter pointed out.  We won't see a ton of rain today, but every little bit helps.

Most of the showers and downpours will be pushing out of eastern MA around 1 PM or so, but some pockets of rain will linger through late afternoon on Cape Cod.  Clouds will be stubborn there too resulting in cooler temps (highs in the 60s) over southeast MA.  Elsewhere, breaks of afternoon sun will boost highs into the 70s creating instability in the atmosphere.  A cold front sweeping through this evening will trigger thunderstorms from west to east generally between the 5-10 PM timeframe.  While I'm not anticipating any widespread damaging storms, a few cells could reach strong to severe levels, particularly in the western and central part of the state; torrential downpours, small hail, brief gusty wind and lightning may accompany these storms as they push through. For those heading to Fenway for the Sox game, have the raincoat just incase – there may be a brief rain delay during the middle/end of the game.

Behind the front, skies clear, dry air arrives and beautiful weather takes hold for midweek.  Another front sweeps through Friday with just a slight risk of a shower before high pressure builds in for the weekend. Right now it looks like Memorial Day will be dry too – so all outdoor plans look like a go! We'll keep you posted if anything changes.
