Daily Talker: Prom Dress Crackdown

It's that time of year where high school students are busy getting ready for prom.  But girls at one Connecticut in high school are getting a hard lesson in fashion.

Educators at Shelton High School, apparently fed up with dresses they felt were too inappropriate, established a special committee to review dresses and rule out ones they felt were too risque or provocative.

The 7 member, all-female committee reviewed more than 150 dresses and ruled that 7 were too much for prom.  It eventually overturned the ruling on one of those dresses.

Among the regulations: no backless dresses, no cut-outs, and no two-piece outfits in which the midriff is exposed.

The school superintendent said, "We know that all of our students want a great prom. We want all of our young female students to be dressed beautifully. Obviously, we want them to enjoy themselves. However, we also want them to be dressed appropriately – appropriately with class and dignity, and also dressed in a tasteful way."

Some students and parents were not happy with the committee's decisions.
