Hanley Ramirez Day-To-Day With Sprained Shoulder

BOSTON (AP/CBS) — Red Sox left fielder Hanley Ramirez has left Monday night's game against Tampa Bay after running into a side wall while attempting a catch.

The team announced later it was a sprained left shoulder. Ramirez wasn't placed on the disabled list, but manager John Farrell said after the game (a 5-1 Red Sox loss) the team will learn more over the next few days.

"He'€™s day-to-day right now," said Farrell. "Obviously the sprain to the left shoulder on the collision. We'€™re hopeful over the next couple days there'€™s some improvement. There'€™s no clear-cut DL at this point. So he'€™s day-to-day."

Ramirez sent out a few Tweets on Monday night, telling Red Sox fans he will be back as soon as he can.

Ramirez, who lead Boston with 10 home runs and 22 RBI, ran toward the left field corner to catch James Loney's slicing fly ball along the foul line. He had it in his glove before it popped out when his left shoulder hit the padded wall.

After retrieving the ball and throwing it in, he dropped to one knee before Farrell and the team's trainer ran out to left field — along with a few Red Sox position players.

Ramirez left the game, walking slowly to the dugout. He was replaced by Allen Craig.

Loney reached second on the play that was originally ruled an error, but later changed to a double.
