AG Issues Regs For Massachusetts Sick Time Law

BOSTON (AP) — The state is moving closer to implementing a voter-approved law that would allow most Massachusetts workers to accrue up to 40 hours of paid sick time in a year.

Attorney General Maura Healey has filed draft regulations that the state would use to enforce the law, scheduled to take effect on July 1.

Healey has scheduled a series of public hearings and listening sessions on the regulations, beginning Friday in Brockton.

The state House of Representatives last Wednesday rejected a Republican-backed amendment that called for delaying the start of the paid sick time law until 90 days after the regulations are finalized in June. House Republican leader Brad Jones argued the delay would give small businesses more time to get ready.

Healey says one in three Massachusetts workers do not currently have access to earned sick time.
