Boston City Panel Sets 4 More Hearings On 2024 Olympics Bid

BOSTON (AP) — A special City Council panel looking into the pros and cons of Boston's bid to win the 2024 Summer Olympics will hold four more public hearings.

City Council president Bill Linehan says the next hearing will be April 21 at City Hall. There will be three additional hearings, but dates haven't yet been set for those.

Linehan says the Special Committee on the 2024 Olympics felt there was a need to get more public input after its first hearing in March lasted more than four hours.

The hearings will examine how the Games would be paid for and their potential impact on Boston's neighborhoods.

Boston's bid has touched off fierce local opposition, with many residents concerned that the Olympics would generate cost overruns and leave taxpayers to foot the bill.
