With Red Sox Away, Fenway Shows Off Improvements On Opening Day
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Red Sox may be in Philadelphia to start the season, but if you walked by Fenway Park on Monday, it felt just like Opening Day.
The smell of kettle corn, cotton candy, hot dogs and pretzels wafted through the air as Mayor Marty Walsh and several families got to see some of the new improvements at the 103-year-old ballpark.
"Just having baseball coming is a sign of summer coming, which is nice," Walsh told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.
There's a new kids concourse, also known as "Gate K," where face painting and balloon animals were being offered. The concourse also contains "Wally's Clubhouse," which provides a play area for kids.
Red Sox fan Wendy Williams liked what she saw and said she hopes to bring her children to a few games.
"This is going to change things for us," Williams said. "This is a very nice introduction."
The Red Sox home opener is April 13.
