Melting Snow Uncovers Middleboro Tree Cutter's Missing Wedding Ring

MIDDLEBORO (CBS) – If this winter has been hard on people who work outside, it was especially tough on Tim Abdow.

He's a tree-trimmer and during one of the February storms, he pulled off his glove, and his wedding ring went flying into a snowbank.

Tim had just gotten married in October.

So Tim searched frantically, with no luck. He even borrowed a metal detector, but nothing turned up.

"I was upset because it was blessed by a really good reverend that was really special to us," said Tim's wife, Ashley. "At first I'm like 'Oh it's just a ring.' But then it hit me and we were both crying and all upset."

So Tim went back to the neighborhood and put notes on people's doors, alerting them to the lost ring.

Then Friday, with the snow melting away, a dog walker spotted it.

"I was just going along and I swore I saw something silver," recalls Bill Hatch. "So I took a step and I went 'Wait a minute.' And I went back and I said 'Oh My Goodness here's the guy's ring.'"

Hatch's discovery was great news for Abdow, who was thrilled to be reunited with his ring.

"I teared up," said Tim Abdow. "Because that ring means a lot to us. I'm really happy there's honest people out there who found it and gave me a call."
