Revolution Midfielder Kelyn Rowe Named MLS Player Of The Week

BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England Revolution picked up their first win of the season over the weekend, thanks to a pair of goals by midfielder Kelyn Rowe.

For his efforts, Rowe earned Major League Soccer Player of the Week honors on Tuesday.

Rowe accounted for both of New England's goals in their 2-1 win over the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday. He netted his first goal in the 21st minute, booting a feed from Lee Nguyen at the top of the San Jose area off Quakes defender Shaun Francis and past goalkeeper David Bingham. It was the Revolution's first goal of the 2015 season, snapping a 291 scoreless minutes streak to start the year.

He added his second tally in the 37th minute, finishing a move that began with a Chris Tierney free kick from the left flank. Tierney's curling ball found the head of Darrius Barnes and Rowe reacted first to the knockdown, sending a shot past Bingham to put New England on top 2-0.

Saturday was the second multi-goal game of Rowe's MLS career. He also set career-highs with seven shots and five shots on goal in Saturday's win.

This is the second time of Rowe's career that he has earned the player of the week award, also taking home the honors in August 2013.

The 1-2-1 Revs are back in action this weekend, taking on the Rapids in Colorado on Saturday at 7 p.m. You can catch that game on myTV38 and streaming on 98.5 The Sports Hub HD 2.
