Keefe's Quickies: Concerned About Koji Uehara?
BOSTON (CBS) - 98.5 The Sports Hub's Rich Keefe, in for Adam Jones, started Tuesday's show with another round of Keefe's Quickies.
Rich goes through the top stories of the day for the Patriots, Bruins, Celtics, and Red Sox in rapid fire fashion.
Give Brad Stevens A Lot Of Credit
"The Celtics have now won five straight games after Monday night's win over, albeit, a bad 76ers team. I think you have to give Brad Stevens and this team a lot of credit. I know they're under .500 and they're not going to win an NBA title this year, but look at what they're doing now. I think since the All Star Break they are 10-5 -- that's tied for the second best record in the Eastern Conference. They're doing all this without Jared Sullinger, and they've done it the last four games without Isaiah Thomas, and they're still finding ways to win these games."
49ers LB Chris Borland Retires At Age 24
"This has gotten a ton of attention nationwide. I still don't understand anybody who is ripping the player for the choice. This is his choice. All these sports certainly can be dangerous, but I don't see how you can criticize Chris Borland given what we know about CTE and brain damage. I also don't think you need to throw the guy a parade. This was his decision to make and he decided to do it."
Patriots Sign Shane Vereen Replacement
"We were looking at potential replacements for Shane Vereen, who obviously signed with the Giants, and the names being thrown around were Reggie Bush, C.J. Spiller, Percy Harvin -- all of those guys signed elsewhere. Travaris Cadet had 38 catches last year, a career high, and only 10 carries. So clearly he's more of a pass-catching running back. It's a two-year deal for him and he's just 26 years old. I'll tell you what, I like the signing. I don't think he's going to blow you away. But nobody said anything about Danny Woodhead either a few years back. He's a little bigger than Woodhead. He's 6-foot-1 210 pounds and he also has some special teams experience."
Kentucky Or The Field?
"I'll give you all the other 67 teams and I'll take Kentucky. They are the biggest favorite in the NCAA tournament in years. Usually there's at least two, three or four favorites, but this year it's not even close. I think this year Kentucky is far and away the team to beat. But if I had to give you one other team to potentially win the tournament I would go with Iowa State."
Uehara Hurt
"Koji Uehara strained his hamstring in spring training. You a little concerned about this? This guy turns 40 years old on April 3rd. There's so many questions on the front end of the Red Sox rotation, and I think it's been glossed over about the back end. How do you like the bullpen of this Red Sox team, specifically Koji Uehara? Two years ago he was unhittable, and last year he was an All Star, but he started to run out of gas at the end of the season. Is this a guy you can rely on? Do the Red Sox have a backup plan if Uehara struggles again?"
Krejci Returning Soon?
"If he plays this weekend who's getting bumped from the lineup? I think most of us who watch the Bruins every night would say it's time for Gregory Campbell to sit down. You can start to jumble up some of these lineups a little bit. But don't we all feel like it's going to be Ryan Spooner sitting? I hope it's not. I would like to think Spooner and David Pastrnak have worked so well together that you try to put them on a line. That's definitely going to be a tough decision they have to make."
