Phantom Gourmet: Whipped Cream Taste Taste

BOSTON (CBS) -- It's what turns your dessert from a simple dish of ice cream to an old fashioned sundae.

Phantom recently purchased four cans of whipped cream at a local supermarket. The sweet contenders were Cabot, Classic Cream, Hood, and Reddi-Wip. See if you can guess which dairy delight ended up at the top of the food chain.

Classic Cream finished in last place. This value brand offers up way more whipped cream dollops for you dollar than the other competitors, but what it doesn't offer is much in the way of flavor or texture. With a barely-there mouthful and lackluster flavor, Phantom thinks this 'classic' is more of a one hit wonder.

A step up from there is Hood. This local brand has an authentic home-style quality that some might find comforting, but Phantom simply finds forgettable. It tastes a lot like the whipped cream phantom put on his sundaes as a kid, but now that he's all grown up, he realizes there may be better options out there.

The runner up is Reddi-Wip. This 'dairy whipped topping' doesn't contain enough milkfat to technically be called real whipped cream, but that doesn't stop it from being pretty darn tasty. It's bright white and thick, and the sweet, marshmallow-like flavor is absolutely addictive. Reddi-Wip certainly tastes more like it came from a laboratory than your grandmother's kitchen, so it's certainly a guilty pleasure.

At the top of the food chain is Cabot. With its cute pink cap and cow print label, the contents of this can are light, airy and creamy with just the right amount of sweetness. This stuff tastes like the real deal, which makes it perfect on fresh fruit, a bowl of ice cream, or just straight out of the can. That's why Cabot whipped cream is at the top of the food chain.
