Volunteers Work To Clear Snow From Boston St. Patrick's Day Parade Route
BOSTON (CBS) – Volunteers spent Saturday clearing snow from the area that will host Boston's annual St. Patrick's Day parade next weekend.
Last week Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said the parade route needed to be changed after a long winter dumped more than 100 inches of snow in the city.
The parade will begin at Broadway Station and end on Farragut Road, but the area was still surrounded by massive snow piles as of Saturday.
A group of volunteers from American Sweepers brought front loaders and dump trucks to the area to remove snow and make room for the parade to roll through.
One resident told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Karyn Regal that the people donating their time and equipment for the good of the annual event are a welcome sign.
"The parade has a long history in the community," the woman said. "I think it's great that a private company on behalf of veterans donated the time and effort to do it. It's been a disaster in the neighborhood. I've never seen snow like this. Ever."
