Brett Connolly To Miss Six Weeks After Suffering Fractured Finger At Bruins Practice

BOSTON (CBS) -- The newest Bruins winger just became the latest Bruins winger to suffer an injury.

Brett Connolly, acquired early Monday morning in a trade with Tampa Bay, was hit by a puck during Wednesday's practice. The Bruins announced shortly after practice that Connolly will be out for six weeks with a displaced fracture of his right index finger.

Connolly had just skated in his second official practice with the Bruins, who sent two second-round picks to the Lightning to acquire him on Monday.

That six-week timetable could have Connolly ready to rejoin the lineup just before the regular season ends.

The 22-year-old posted 12 goals and three assists in 50 games with Tampa Bay this season. He was expected to slot in on the third line at right wing, with Carl Soderberg at center and Loui Eriksson on the left wing.

Connolly's right hand has been through quite a bit in his life. When he was 5 years old, Connolly got his hand stuck in a metal gate that slammed shut. He suffered three broken bones and underwent multiple surgeries. Connolly referred to that as a "freak accident," and the latest incident with the Bruins will likely fall under the same category.
