National Pancake Day: Short Stacks Raise Millions For Kids

BOSTON (CBS) -- Tuesday is National Pancake Day, and IHOP is once again offering the chance to chow down on free flapjacks while helping children in need.

Until 10 p.m., participating IHOP restaurants are giving away short stacks of buttermilk pancakes. The restaurant chain asks that customers consider leaving behind a voluntary donation for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals or other designated local charities.

This is the 10th anniversary of National Pancake Day, and IHOP has raised about $20 million for charity since the event began.

Last year, IHOP said it served about 4.2 million free pancakes on National Pancake Day – a stack that would have reached more than 12 miles high.

In Brighton, Miss Massachusetts Lauren Kuhn will be flipping pancakes and serving customers at the IHOP on Soldiers Field Road after 5 p.m.
