Worker Removing Snow Falls Through Skylight, Lands On Coat Racks

BOSTON (CBS) -- A coat rack may have broken the fall of a teenager who fell through a skylight on a Westwood roof while shoveling snow.

The 17-year-old worker was conscious as he was rushed to a Boston hospital by MedFlight after the 25-foot fall at Frugal Fannie's, fire officials said.

Two men at the scene who were also hired to shovel snow said the worker landed on coat racks.

"He slipped and the skylight was right there and it already had a crack in it," said Tim Schaffer, who works at a landscaping company. "The coat rack saved his life, pretty much."

Information on the condition of the worker, a student at Pelham High School in New Hampshire, was not immediately available. But his coworkers said he was expected to be OK.

"He's going to be all right," Schaffer said. "He's just going to need a couple of stiches."

Workers estimated that it was about a 25-foot drop.

"It's high up. It's a good fall if you were to fall," said Zach Tracy, who also works for Elite Landscape. "I guess he landed right on all the clothes."

In Canton, a man died Sunday after falling through a skylight while assessing snow removal needs on the roof of a business.
