Boston School Committee Names Four Finalists For Superintendent Job

BOSTON (AP) — The four finalists to become the next superintendent of Boston's public schools are all men and all currently work out of state.

The Boston School Committee on Thursday announced that the finalists are: Dana Bedden, superintendent of Richmond, Virginia, public schools; Tommy Chang, a superintendent in the Los Angeles Unified School District; Pedro Martinez, a superintendent with the Nevada Education Department; and Guadalupe Guerrero, deputy superintendent for the San Francisco Unified School District.

Guerrero was also a teacher and a principal in Boston from 1997 until 2008.

Each candidate will have a daylong series of interviews next week with various stakeholders, including Mayor Marty Walsh.

A decision is expected March 3.

The Boston school department oversees more than 57,000 students in 128 schools.
