Gov. Baker: 'Healthy Exchange Of Views' During Meeting With MBTA Officials

BOSTON (CBS/AP) — Gov. Charlie Baker says he had a "healthy exchange of views" with the leader of the Boston-area transit system as the two met on a day of new commuting woes for residents who use mass transit.

Baker said Thursday that he would have more to say later about his meeting with Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority General Manager Beverly Scott and the agency as a whole.

The MBTA has come under fire for its on-again, off-again service problems during recent snowstorms, including the decision to suspend all rail service on Monday night through Tuesday.

Following Thursday's meeting, Scott said in a statement the discussions were positive.

It was a pleasure to meet Governor Baker and Lt. Governor Polito today.  In a substantive meeting which included our top operating personnel, we had a serious conversation with Governor Baker and Lt. Governor Polito about the issues facing our aging transit system.  The Governor was very focused, and we were pleased to share information that will help him make decisions as we chart a course for improving public transportation.  I'm convinced that today's meeting will be remembered as the start of something very good.

Scott announced Wednesday that she is resigning, effective in April.
