Woman Dies In Dorchester Fire
BOSTON (CBS) -- A older adult woman died in a fire in Dorchester Thursday morning, a Boston fire officials said.
The woman was found in a first-floor closet of the two-and-a-half-story house. She was transported to a hospital but died, officials said.
Firefighters put out a 2-alarm fire at 31 Greenwich St. just after 6 a.m., the Boston Fire Department said.
Jay Fleming of the Boston Fire Department said firefighters faced challenges fighting the flames. Hydrants in the area were buried in snow and needed to be shoveled out.
Fleming said it is unclear if that played a part in the woman's death, but urged residents to clean out hydrants in their own neighborhood.
"In a fire, seconds can make the difference," said Fleming.
Fire officials say this is Boston's first fatal blaze in 2015.
There were no other reports of injuries. The fire chief estimated damage at $250,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
