Student-On-Student Sex Assault Alleged At Ipswich Elementary School

IPSWICH (CBS) --  Local police and the Essex County District Attorney's office are investigating an alleged incident of sexual assault at an Ipswich elementary school.

The superintendent of Winthrop Elementary School said that one student allegedly assaulted another student, WBZ NewsRadio 1030 reported. The superintendent also said that no other student is believed to be involved and the Department of Children and Families is investigating the case.

Students from pre-K to fifth grade attend the school, but the age of the students was not released.

Authorities notified Ipswich schools and "appropriate state agencies" of the reported sexual assault, police said.

"When the incident was reported, the Ipswich Police Department and Ipswich Public Schools immediately began working together to create and implement a precautionary safety plan to ensure the well-being and safety of all students," Ipswich police said in a statement.

Police did not release any additional information about the allegations.
