Rex Ryan Stays In AFC East, Agrees To Become Next Buffalo Bills Head Coach
BOSTON (CBS) - The New England Patriots will once again face a Rex Ryan-led team twice a year.
The New York Jets parted ways with head coach Rex Ryan on Black Monday after six seasons at the helm. Ryan finished 46-50 in the regular season for Gang Green, including a 4-2 playoff record and consecutive AFC Championship appearances from 2009-10.
But the Jets bottomed out in 2014, finishing 4-12 and missing the playoffs for the fourth straight season. However, it didn't take long for the defensive-minded coach to find work.
The Buffalo Bills announced Monday morning that Rex Ryan, 52, will become the franchise's 18th head coach, and the first hire under the Pegula ownership.
The contract is a reported five-year, $27.5 million deal.
Ryan takes over a defense that led the NFL in sacks in 2014 and finished top five in points allowed.
