Man Charged After Victim Offers Reward In Stoneham Hit-And-Run

STONEHAM (CBS) -- Police have charged a man in a Dec. 20 Stoneham hit-and-run after the victim offered a $5,000 reward.

Jonathan Shedd, 22, of Wakefield, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident. He was identified after a Wakefield detective spotted a vehicle matching the hit-and-run description, and a citizen also called police anonymously.

Shedd will appear in court at a later date, Stoneham police said.

The hit-and-run on Main Street injured 61-year-old Mike Vining, who later offered the reward.

"I put my left hand on door handle and next thing I know I was struck," Vining told WBZ-TV.

A surveillance camera caught the heart stopping second where Vining was nearly killed. He was leaving a Stoneham restaurant when an SUV came speeding down Main Street and clipped him.

"I feel very fortunate I'm not dead," he said.
