Quiet, Cold End To 2014

BOSTON (CBS) -- Our high temperature in Boston the past 4 days?? 52, 52, 50, 59! What season are we in again? It's been a remarkably warm stretch the past several days and on the month as a whole. We're over 4 degrees above the normal and our precip total for the month has been impressive too, sitting at 6.56" at Logan.  Now, our weather pattern is changing as we close in on the New Year.

Today is the transition – expect highs in the upper 30s and lower 40s with a blend of sun and clouds; a pretty quiet, seasonal day by December standards.  Tomorrow and Wednesday will be colder with afternoon highs struggling to get out of the upper 20s and lower 30s.  It'll be kind of your classic First Night weather to ring in 2015…partly cloudy and chilly with temps in the mid 20s and wind chills in the teens around midnight. Make sure to dress in layers if you're going to be outdoors for any NYE festivities!

The cold air is also accompanied by dry air though so we stay storm-free through the start of the weekend.  Our next potential weather maker wouldn't arrive until Sunday. At this point it looks like the chilly air will be slow to erode from New England which may mean a wintry mix at the onset followed by a changeover to rain (all depending on track and intensity of the storm of course).  We'll keep you posted on this through the week!
