Foxboro Bicyclist Completes 48-State Cycling Tour For Charity

FOXBORO (CBS/AP) -- A Foxboro bicyclist has completed a 48-state cycling tour to raise money for Make-a-Wish and has returned to Rhode Island.

Stephen Laskey crossed into Rhode Island Sunday, completing a 48-state, 8,000-mile cycling tour to raise money for Make-A-Wish.

"It was very much a perfect storybook ending to a lifelong dream," Laskey told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

Laskey said he raised about $10,000 toward his $25,000 fundraising goal and hoped more money will come in.

He cycled through each of the lower 48 states, even if just for a minute, during his 222 days on the road.

"I would shoot for 50 miles a day and ride six days a week," he said.

About 50 spectators, including friends and family, watched as Laskey, a park ranger in Foxboro, completed his journey.

"I'm still in amazement that it's over," said the 52-year-old Laskey.

Laskey's last tour was from Alaska to Florida to benefit the Livestrong Foundation. He says the Make-A-Wish journey will be his last.
