Hundreds Of Protesters March Through Somerville, Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) - It was a second night of protests as hundreds of demonstrators marched through the streets of Somerville and Cambridge.

While Thursday night's protest in Boston brought several parts of the city to a standstill, this was a line march of mostly college students hoping to unite campuses along the way.

Their mission was to call attention to their battle cries of "justice" and "black lives matter". It brought Massachusetts Avenue to a standstill on a busy Friday night.

"We're talking justice, but we can't step back and talk about it and not do anything about it," said Tufts University student Lucy Fell.

Fellow protester Dominic Bakley said, "It's forcing people to think about something they need to talk about."

The protesters say they want justice in the wake of grand jury decisions not to indict two white police officers for the deaths of unarmed black men in Missouri and New York.

"This is a modern day civil rights movement," said Olivia Castor.

They staged "die-ins" from Davis Square, to Harvard Square, to Central Square ending their protest at the Massachusetts Avenue bridge where they met a line of State Police.

"I have found a voice," said protester Yonas Dinkneh. "Everybody is implicated, everybody needs to be out here."

Police were their escorts following the "soft approach" to letting protesters air their grievances. For a time it looked like the group would try to cross the Massachusetts Avenue bridge into Boston and unite more campuses.

There were no arrests and Cambridge police tweeted they "appreciate the respectful, peaceful actions of all involved and the law enforcement collaboration."
