Sirius XM Settles With N.H., Mass. For Misleading Practices
CONCORD, N.H. (CBS/AP) — New Hampshire's attorney general says the state will receive $53,000 from Sirius XM radio to resolve complaints about misleading advertising and billing practices, while about $80,000 will be awarded to Massachusetts as a part of the settlement.
New Hampshire and Massachusetts' shares are part of a $3.8 million settlement that will be split among 45 states and the District of Columbia who filed complaints.
The money will be funneled into the states' consumer protection bureau for future investigations and prosecutions.
In addition to the lump sum settlement, Sirius XM will make restitution to consumers who lost money due to billing and contract disputes that occurred between July 2008 and August 2014.
Eligible consumers should contact their state's attorney general's office.
As part of the settlement, Sirius XM agrees to clearly detail its billing and contract terms.
