Stevens On Smart's Progress: 'Marcus Looks Great'

BOSTON (CBS) -- Marcus Smart is only expected to miss 2-3 weeks with the sprained ankle he suffered on Friday night, and the rookie seems pretty determined to be back as soon as possible.

Smart has already made it into the C's practice facilities four times for treatment since awkwardly stepping on the foot of Indiana's Lavoy Allen, and Boston head coach Brad Stevens said the point guard is doing well on his road to recovery.

"Marcus looks great," Stevens said following Monday's practice. "I saw Marcus [on Sunday], he was in for treatment three times. He's been in for treatment already today. He looks better than yesterday; better than the day before. It's progressing the way it's supposed to."

Things looked a lot worse when the injury first occurred and Smart crumbled to the ground, needing a stretcher to be carted off the floor. But after receiving an MRI late Friday night, it was determined he would only miss 2-3 weeks.

"Obviously when you first saw it you think, 'Wow, it could be longer than three weeks,'" said Stevens. "He's got to heal well and continue to do his treatment. If he does his treatment diligently, he'll be back sooner rather than later. Because these guys really work hard to get these guys back. I anticipate him being back; he's a pretty diligent kid. He works pretty hard at it."

Smart, the sixth overall selection in June's draft, averaged 6.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game over the first five games of the season for Boston.
