Woman Seriously Burned In Stoughton Apartment Fire

STOUGHTON (CBS) -- One woman was injured in an apartment fire in Stoughton Thursday morning.

The fire started at about 6:30 a.m. in her second-floor apartment, and when firefighters arrived to the apartment building on Wheeler Street, they said they found the woman on the steps with serious burns.

"Arriving companies saw heavy black smoke approximately a mile down the street," Stoughton Fire Chief Mark Dolloff said.

The woman was medflighted to a Boston hospital with burns, fire officials said. The extent of her injuries is not known.

Neighbors said the fire happened when she was cooking.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. About 57 residents have been temporarily displaced.
