Middleborough Police Get 911 Calls About Fighter Jets, Helicopter

MIDDLEBORO (CBS) - Middleboro police say they received several 911 calls Friday morning about fighter jets and an unidentified helicopter flying over town.

Police told WBZ-TV the jets were scrambled out of Barnes Air National Guard Base in Westfield to check on the helicopter.

There has been no comment yet from Barnes ANG.

President Obama spent Thursday night in nearby Providence, Rhode Island for a Friday event.

A spokeswoman for The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) told WBZ the F-15 fighter jets were launched because the Providence area was restricted airspace for the president's visit and the helicopter was not communicating.

The jets safely intercepted the helicopter, it left the airspace and landed.
