White Shark Named After Late Northboro Soldier
BOSTON (CBS) – Northboro soldier Brian Arsenault was killed by enemy fire in Afghanistan last month. But his legacy will continue to live on in the depths of the Atlantic Ocean.
The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy said on its Facebook page that in honor of the 28-year-old Northboro soldier, it named a shark tagged on the same day he was killed in his honor.
Spc. Arsenault died on September 4 while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Ghazni, Afghanistan.
That same day, researchers tagged a 12-foot great white shark in the waters of Chatham. It was the 17th great white tagged this year by the group.
Researchers named the shark "Spc. Brian Arsenault" and have been tracking the shark's movement since.
"Brian's cousin Elliot shared with us that Brian loved white sharks and the two of them often talked about planning a cage diving trip in Mexico," the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy posted.
"To honor the memory of such a valiant young man who shared our love of white sharks and unselfishly served his country, Atlantic White Shark Conservancy is proud to name a tagged white shark after Brian."
Arsenault was killed while serving with the 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division based out of Fort Bragg, N.C.
