Fatal Police-Involved Shooting In Dartmouth Under Investigation

DARTMOUTH (CBS) -- A fatal police-involved shooting in Dartmouth Thursday night is under investigation, Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter said.

Police responded to a Ledgewood Boulevard apartment at 11 p.m. Thursday after a woman said her 25-year-old ex-boyfriend entered her apartment and damaged her television and computer, Sutter said. Luis Roman of New Bedford had left the scene when officers arrived.

"At some point while officers were taking statements from the female victim and her parents, Mr. Roman called the victim's father asking if police were at the apartment," Sutter said. "When he was told police were still on scene, he indicated he was coming back to the apartment and that he had his gun out, ammunition and said he wasn't going back to jail."

Roman returned to the apartment and officers ordered him to exit his vehicle with his hands up, Sutter said. He started to get out of the vehicle, before getting back inside.

When police approached the vehicle, Roman then reached for and brandished one of two guns he had, according to Sutter. He then fired two shots before he was fatally shot by police, Sutter said.

Roman was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The incident is under investigation.
