Police: Harvard Death Threat Not Credible, Likely Originated Overseas
BOSTON (CBS) – Harvard police said that initial findings show that an email threat made Friday night to hundreds of Harvard affiliates does not appear to be credible.
The Crimson newspaper was forwarded a copy of the email on Friday, which said the author would come to Harvard on Saturday at "11 clock" and "shoot all of you" and "kill you individually."
The author of the email claimed to be from Boston. However, in an alert to the campus on Saturday, Harvard officials said the investigation showed the email likely originated overseas.
"As a result, it appears at this time that the threat may not be credible," Harvard officials said on Saturday.
Harvard police will join other law enforcement agencies to continue to take the threat seriously, officials said. A heightened uniformed and plainclothes police presence will remain throughout the weekend.
Police asked members of the Harvard community to be familiar with Active Shooter Safety Guidelines, which can be found online.
