Robi On The Road: Israeli Rep. To New England Converts To Red Sox Nation

BOSTON (CBS) -- Yehuda Yaakov was born and raised a New York Yankees fan.

Then he did the unthinkable.

He hung up the pinstripes and donned Red Sox gear.

Yaakov moved from Israel to Boston to become the new consul general of Israel to New England. When he did, he posted a video on YouTube proclaiming who his new favorite baseball team is.

"I was born in New York, raised as a Yankees fan," he said. "But hey, I figure if Jacoby Ellsbury can move from the Red Sox to the Yankees, I can move from the Yankees to the Red Sox."

Yaakov told WBZ-TV that he expects to hear some razzing from Yankees fans but promises his allegiance to the Red Sox now.

In his new job as a peace promoter for the Middle East, Yaakov hopes to foster the same kind of mutual respect between fans in Boston and New York.

"I don't hate the Yankees, just as we don't hate our neighbors in the Middle East," he said.

Yaakov's mother Molly told us she raised him to be a Yankees fan but is proud of what he's done with his life and is OK with his "conversion."

"I was just really thankful to the Lord for all he's done for him," she said.
