Boston Cup Car Show Will Bring Classics And Race Cars To Common

BOSTON (CBS) – The Boston Cup Car Show takes place Sunday on Boston Common where there will be more than $100 million worth of cars on display from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise money for Boston Parks and Recreation.

WBZ-TV's David Robichaud got a preview of the show from Rich Doucette, one of the show's founders, who called it a "luxury lifestyle event.

Doucette explained that the show features a combination of classic cars and race cars. "We want the cars to be the stars," he said.

Among the race cars at the show will be Bruce Ledoux's Ferrari. He and his wife Linda race the Ferrari through their charity Guardian Angel Motor Sports. They compete in six to eight races per year with a pledge per lap model to raise money for charities that benefit children in need. They've donated more than $450,000 to the charities.

Ed Owens gave Robichaud a sneak peek at his hand-built 1966 Mercedes Benz that will be one of the classic cars on display. The car features a burl nut wooden dashboard.

"They just don't build them to these specifications anymore," Owens said.
