Swansea Man Charged With Murdering 23-Year-Old Woman
SWANSEA (CBS) – Police arrested a 56-year-old Swansea man on murder charges early Sunday morning after they discovered the body of a 23-year old woman.
Timothy R. Levesque, 56 is facing charges of murder and assault and battery, according to the Birstol County District Attorney's Office.
At around 1:35 a.m., police received several 911 calls reporting a shooting in the area of 356 Ocean Grove Ave, according to the DA's office. When they arrived, officers and paramedics found the victim lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
The victim, Melissa J. White, 23, of Swansea was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence where she was pronounced dead, according to the DA's office.
After a preliminary investigation, police arrested Levesque without incident. He will be arraigned on Monday in Fall River District Court.
The Medical Examiner's Office will perform an autopsy on White to determine her cause of death.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
