Patriots Ranked Second In Value In NFL At $2.6 Billion

BOSTON (CBS) — It is good to own an NFL team, and it’s even better to own the one that calls New England home.

The New England Patriots rank second in the NFL on Forbes’ list of the league’s most valuable franchises. According to Forbes, the Patriots are worth $2.6 billion, well above the average NFL franchise value of $1.43 billion.

For the eighth straight year, the Dallas Cowboys rank No. 1 on the list, valued at $3.2 billion. The only sports team in the world worth more than the Cowboys is Real Madrid at $3.4 billion.

In the NFL, the Washington Redskins ($2.4 billion), New York Giants ($2.1 billion) and Houston Texans ($1.85 billion) round out the top five.

The St. Louis Rams, valued at $930 million, rank last in the NFL, just ahead of the Buffalo Bills ($935 million), Detroit Lions ($960 million) and Jacksonville Jaguars ($965 million).

The report noted that the average value of an NFL team increased 23 percent from last year, the largest such increase since 1999.
