Boston Named 'Most Facial Hair Friendly City In America'

BOSTON (CBS) – The beards that brought the Red Sox luck during their run to the World Series last year, also helped the City of Boston win another title.

A study by the grooming company Wahl found the Hub is the "Most Facial Hair Friendly City In America."

According to Wahl, "The study included in-depth analysis of the online universe over the past two years for beard and mustache positivity."

While general popularity of facial hair helped dictate the results, notable facial-hair-related events contributed to the rankings.

Last year, Red Sox players and fans sported beards and the team went on to win the World Series.

In September, "Dollar Beard Night" at Fenway quickly sold out. After the season, there were several events where Sox players shaved their beards for charity.

Growing a playoff beard is nothing new for hockey fans, and in 2013, the Boston Bruins held their annual "Beard-A-Thon" to raise money for The One Fund. The Chicago Blackhawks beat the Bruins in the Stanley Cup that season, helping their city earn the number four spot on the list.

The list in order includes:

1. Boston
2. Los Angeles
3. Miami
4. Chicago
5. Salt Lake City

The rankings were released as Wahl begins searching for the best facial hair in the country.
