Officials say around 5:15 a.m. on Saturday, the woman was crossing near the intersection of River and Washington Streets when she was hit.

She was rushed to Carney Hospital after the crash, but doctors were unable to save her.

The woman has not been officially identified, but neighbors say her name was Nancy and hailed from Kenya.

The woman was going to school and making arrangements for her son to immigrate to the United States. Neighbors say she had recently moved into her apartment and worked two jobs. Friends said she used the MBTA to get to work every morning.

The driver of the pickup truck did stop at the scene. The crash is under investigation and there is no word yet on whether charges will be filed.
