BROCKTON (CBS) – A young man is being held without bail, charged with stabbing his father to death in Brockton.
Amilton Goncalves, 21, was arraigned Tuesday in Brockton District Court on a murder charge.
According to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, Goncalves had “an ongoing dispute throughout the day” Monday with his father, 44-year-old Joaopedro Goncalves.
Earlier in the day, Amilton Goncalves allegedly punched his mother in the face and then took off from their home on Louis Street.
Prosecutors say he returned that night, and a fight broke out outside the home.
“Upon the father’s return from the hospital where the mother received treatment, the son confronted the father in front of the residence and stabbed him once in the center of the chest,” District Attorney Tim Cruz said in a statement Tuesday.
“We ran down there and tried to do CPR. That’s when the ambulance came and we just couldn’t save him,” Neighbor Dan Flaherty told WBZ-TV.
Joaopedro Goncalves was rushed to a hospital where he died.
