Lynn Police Look At Babysitter's Story After Toddlers Burned In Bathtub

BOSTON (CBS) – Lynn police are trying to verify a babysitter's story after two children were severely burned in a bathtub Wednesday.

Two-year-old Landon Young has second-degree burns over 50 percent of his body and remains in critical but stable condition at Shriners Hospital for Children. His three-year-old brother Leland is in stable condition.

The children were apparently being watched by a 21-year-old babysitter in an apartment on Essex Street Wednesday morning.

That man's father, Charles Collins, told reporters his son left the children in the tub briefly to use a bathroom in a friend's apartment and the three-year-old turned the hot water on.

The babysitter's father said his son told him that when he returned the boys were screaming and trying to get out of the tub.

Both boys were rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital on MedFlight rescue helicopters.

But, the building's landlord told WBZ-TV's Beth Germano the babysitter admitted he fell asleep and plans to talk to Lynn police about his story.

So far no charges have been filed.

The district attorney will only say it's still under investigation.

The Department of Children and Families is also looking into the incident.
