Sex Offender Arrested In Alleged Home Invasion And Rape In Arlington

ARLINGTON (CBS) – A convicted sex offender is under arrest for allegedly breaking into an Arlington woman's home and raping and beating her, police said.

Police were conducting a well-being check on the woman at about 8:15 Sunday night and as they arrived a man fled out the back door of the home. Officers ran after the man and caught him a short time later.

When officers went inside the home, they found the woman seriously injured. She told them she had been the victim of a home invasion and sexual assault, police said.

Essie L. Billingslea, 45, of Boston was arrested and charged with aggravated rape, kidnapping, home invasion, assault and battery, and armed assault in a dwelling.

Arlington police Chief Frederick Ryan said Billingslea is a Level 3 sex offender with a history of violence.

Billingslea is scheduled to be arraigned in Cambridge District Court Monday morning.

The victim is being treated at an undisclosed hospital.
