Phantom Gourmet: Twisted Fork In Cherry Valley

BOSTON (CBS) -- Eggs benedict with spicy hollandaise, French pork pie made from a centuries old recipe and seared scallops with parsnip puree. Such refined food must come from the hands of a very serious chef, right? Well, not exactly.

"Who is ready for Freddy? Time to go baby! Woo Doogy! Turn that egg upside down. Who wants their eggs over easy? Whoo Yeah!"

Say hello to the wildest chef in Worcester county. Jay Powell is the creative chef, outgoing owner and always entertaining floor show at The Twisted Fork in Cherry Valley, where he specializes in serving breakfast and lunch with an upscale twist.

"You can go anywhere down the street and get the lumberjack special, okay. I want something that people have never had before."

So for breakfast, Jay reinvents the old standards with dishes like Bananas Foster French Toast, Shrimp Scampi Omeletes and Apple Crisp Pancakes. While at lunch you can find everything from chili smothered cheeseburgers to homemade cream of mushroom soup to a real deal Pilgrim Sandwich, with every ingredient made from scratch.

"We roast whole turkeys. Not a turkey breast, we roast whole turkeys. We grill all our breads to make that sandwich. The stuffing is made here, it is not Stove Top. And then we top it with our own homemade cranberry sauce."

And while Chef Jay commands the kitchen, his very patient wife Nancy presides over a warm and welcoming dining room that is always filled with very happy customers.

"It's a beautiful place to come to to relax, to have a wonderful meal, to meet friends, and just have a really really good time. I always tell people I'm living the dream, and I truly am. I am cooking and running a restaurant and having the best time of my life. And I got to tell you it's fantastic, I got great friends, great family, and they support me, and you know something, it's awesome."
