7 Cars Damaged, Carjacking Suspect Arrested After Flipping SUV In Burlington

BURLINGTON (CBS) - One person is in custody following a crash, carjacking and rollover on Route 128 southbound, Massachusetts State Police say.

Around 3:15 p.m. on Friday, Troopers say the suspect, Arthur Choate, 23, of Gloucester, crashed his vehicle in Peabody.

He allegedly carjacked a second vehicle, took off, crashed into several other vehicles at various points and eventually rolled over that vehicle in Burlington.

He was arrested trying to take off from that crash scene, police say.

Two lanes of Route 128 Southbound were closed for about an hour while police investigated.

There are no injuries reported, but a total of seven vehicles were involved in the various crashes.

State Police say they are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, but they note that they don't believe that alcohol played any role.

They also noted that there was no police pursuit at any point during the incident.

Choate is charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. He also faces multiple motor vehicle violations related to the incident.
