Phantom Gourmet: Pizza Barbone In Hyannis

BOSTON (CBS) --- Sometimes the greatest food can be found in the most unexpected locations, and that's exactly what's happening at Pizza Barbone in Hyannis.

Cape Cod isn't usually known as a spot for truly outstanding cuisine, but that's changing thanks restaurants like Pizza Barbone where Chef Jason O'Toole and his wife Ali are creating authentic Neapolitan style pizzas that rival anything you would find in Italy.

"It's a different tasting pizza. You bite into it you know it taste fresh in your mouth you get all the flavors, different notes and the basil or the cheese and the little acidity in the sauce but it doesn't taste dried or canned or processed."

What makes it so good are of course the ingredients, many of which come straight from the roof top garden right above the restaurant. Then there's the pizza oven itself, a three-ton, wood burning behemoth that was actually imported from Italy.

And what comes out of the oven are picture perfect pizzas that taste even better than they look. From the classic Margherita, to mouth-watering meatball, to earthy Forest Mushroom with garlic and truffle oil. Every pie is a feast for the eyes, and the stomach, at Pizza Barbone.
