BROCKTON (CBS) – Three children were struck by a hit-and-run driver in Brockton Thursday morning.

It happened just after 8 a.m. at the corner of Myrtle Street and Warren Avenue as they were crossing the street to get on the bus.

Yainira Boria, 38, of Brockton was arrested and charged in the accident, Brockton police said. A short-time after the incident, officers found the car involved and spotted Boria nearby at a corner drinking a beer, according to police.

School officials told WBZ-TV the bus was stopped with its stop sign out and lights flashing and three other children had already boarded the bus when two 8-year-olds and a 6-year-old from the Brookfield Elementary School were hit by the car.

A witness said the woman driving the car asked if the children were OK before driving away.

The three kids who were struck were home recovering Thursday night. They all have scrapes and bruises, but no broken bones.

Andreia Fernandes, 8, and Larry DaSilva, 6, live in the same building and are two of the children who were hit. Larry’s father, Lorenzo DaSilva, walks them to the bus stop and says the driver came out of nowhere.

He said he saw the group get hit and his son go into the air. Lorenzo DaSilva said the driver stopped, told him she didn’t have a license and left. DaSilva said he was focused on his son.

“After fall down, he don’t say nothing. I pick him up and bring him to side of the road,” said DaSilva.

Andreia Fernandes is hurt on her side. Larry DaSilva has bandages on both legs and now walks with a limp.

“I hope they pay for that,” DaSilva said about the driver. “Anybody who have kids. You love your kids.”

All three children were taken to Brockton Hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.

The three children who had already boarded were the only children on the bus. They went to school where they were seen by a guidance counselor.

WBZ-TV’s Katie Brace contributed to this report.
