Daily Talker: Taking Children To Circus Shows

Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a support frame to collapse during an aerial stunt at the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus performance in Providence, RI on Sunday.

The accident happened during the Legends show, during an act in which eight performers hang "like a human chandelier" using their hair, according to a show spokesman.

The spokesman said the metal-frame apparatus from which the performers were hanging came free from the metal truss it was connected to. The eight women fell 25 to 40 feet, landing on a dancer below. None of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.

The accident was witnessed by an audience of nearly 4,000 people, many of them children.

"Everyone was in shock," spectator Rosa Viveiros said. "It was pretty overwhelming to see that."
