BOSTON (CBS) — It may be the first month of baseball season, and the NHL and NBA playoffs may be in full swing, but in America, it’s always football season.

The actual start of the NFL season won’t be until September, but Wednesday night was nevertheless an exciting one for football fans, as the NFL announced its 2014 schedule.

For Patriots fans, that means mapping out the key games of the 2014 season, as the Pats try to earn another trip to the playoffs and avenge last year’s loss to Denver in the AFC Championship Game.

The 2014 Patriots schedule is below:

Week 1, September 7: 1:00PM at Miami Dolphins (Sun Life Stadium) on WBZ-TV/98.5 The Sports Hub

Week 15, December 14: 1:00PM vs. Miami Dolphins (Gillette Stadium) on WBZ-TV/98.5 The Sports Hub

Week 16, December 21: 1:00PM at New York Jets (MetLife Stadium) on WBZ-TV/98.5 The Sports Hub

Week 17, December 28: 1:00PM vs. Buffalo Bills (Gillette Stadium) on WBZ-TV/98.5 The Sports Hub

Every NFL team plays its three divisional opponents twice — once at home, and once on the road. The AFC East this year will play against the AFC West (Oakland, San Diego, Kansas City, Denver) and the NFC North (Green Bay, Chicago, Minnesota, Detroit). The Patriots’ final two games were determined by their finish in first place last year. As a result, they’ll play Indianapolis and Cincinnati, the respective winners of the AFC South and AFC North.

The Patriots have made the playoffs for five straight years and in 10 of the past 11 seasons.
